An Autonomous System Number (ASN) is required if you want to run BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) with upstream providers or peers, and announce your own IP prefixes on the internet.

SignalX, as a RIPE NCC Local Internet Registry (LIR), can assist you in registering or transferring your ASN.

Requirements for an ASN

Before requesting an ASN, you must:

  1. Have provider-independent resources (e.g., IPv4/IPv6 PI space) or plan to announce your own allocated prefixes.

  2. Provide technical justification – demonstrate the need for an ASN (e.g., multihoming with multiple upstream ISPs).

  3. Have at least two peers/upstreams (RIPE policy requirement).

Steps to Register Your ASN with SignalX

  1. Order the ASN registration/transfer service from your SignalX account.

  2. Provide the following information:

    • Organization details (legal entity, address, contacts)

    • Technical contacts (admins responsible for the ASN)

    • Planned upstream providers (at least 2)

    • Peering details (if applicable)

  3. SignalX will handle the RIPE NCC request process on your behalf.

  4. Once approved, the ASN will be assigned to your organization and published in the RIPE Database.

RPKI & Routing Security

We highly recommend enabling RPKI for your ASN to ensure secure route validation and protect against route hijacks.

Processing Time

ASN assignments are typically completed within a few business days, depending on RIPE NCC validation and documentation.

Refund Policy

⚠️ Please note that once you order the ASN registration or transfer service, the order is non-refundable.

  • LIR services are excluded from the SignalX Money-Back Guarantee, since they are not hosting services but RIPE-related registry services.
